[올랜도=하이코리언뉴스] 장마리아 기자=12일 새벽2시 올랜도 게이 전용 "펄스 나이트 클럽"에서 일어난 총격사건으로 20여명 사망, 42명의 부상자가 났다고 올랜도 경찰서장 "존 미나"는 아침 기자 회견에서 말했다.
총격 사건 용의자는 소총과 폭발물로 의심되는 장치로 무장한 채 나이트클럽에서 불특정 다수의 시민들을 향해 총을 난사했다. 경찰은 총격이 발생한지 3시간 뒤 경찰 특수기동대SWAT을 투입해 총격전을 벌인 끝에 용의자를 사살하고 인질들을 구출했다.
당시 나이트 클럽에는 320여명이 있었던 것으로 알려졌다. 연방수사국FBI는 용의자가 이슬람 자생적 테러리스트인 '외로운 늑대'일 가능성을 놓고 조사중이다.
올랜도 경찰과 연방수사국 FBI, 소방국은 현재 나이트 클럽 인근 도로들을 차단한 채 정확한 총격 사건 원인을 조사중이다.
gunman took people hostage overnight inside Pulse nightclub in Orlando, where approximately 20 people were killed and 42 were taken to the hospital, Orlando Police Chief John Mina said at a morning news conference.
The gunman, who has not been identified, was carrying an assault rifle, a handgun and a "device." The Orange County Sheriff;s Office hazardous device team is now searching the area.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation is assisting with the investigation. Agents say they cannot rule this out as an act of domestic terrorism and that the suspect, who is not from Orlando, may have leanings toward extreme ideologies.
Dozens of emergency vehicles surrounded the chaotic scene at the club at 1912 S. Orange Ave. after the 2 a.m. shooting and rescue squads were transporting multiple victims to area hospitals.
