텍사스 주 가금류 생산·가공업체 ‘필그림스 프라이드’(Pilgrim’s Pride)가 450만 파운드에 달하는 완전조리 닭고기 식품의 리콜을 전국으로 확대했다.연방농무부USDA는 오늘(27일) 필그림스 프라이드 사의 통밀 빵가루로 덮힌 너겟과 패티,닭가슴살, 팝콘 스타일 닭고기 등에 플라스틱, 목재, 고무, 금속 성분의 이물질이 함유됐다고 밝혔다.
문제의 식품들은 ‘골드 키스트 팜’(Gold Kist Farms)과 ‘피어스 치킨’(Pierce Chicken), ‘스윗 조지아’(Sweet Georgia) 등의 브랜드로 판매됐으며,일부는 학교 급식 식자재로 배달됐다.
지난 6일 한 고객은 치킨너겟에서 ‘플라스틱’이 나왔다고 항의했고 USDA 식품안전검사국이 조사한 결과, 다른 닭고기 상품에서도 같은 이물질이 발견됐다.
USDA는 필그림스 프라이드 사의 닭고기를 보관하고있다면 즉시 폐기하거나 구매했던 매장에 돌려줄 것을 권고했다.현재까지 이로인해 상해를 입은 사람은 없는 것으로 알려졌다.

WACO, Texas -- Pilgrim's Pride has ordered a massive recall of cooked chicken products after consumers and federal meat inspectors found contamination by such foreign material as wood, plastic, rubber and metal.
The recall of more than 4.5 million pounds of fully cooked chicken products announced Tuesday is an expansion of a recall of almost 41,000 pounds of cooked chicken nugget products announced April 7.
A statement from the U.S. Food Safety and Inspection Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture says the recall involves products bearing the establishment number "EST.20728" inside the USDA inspection mark.
