올랜도, 세계 최대 종합 리조트 관광도시
[올랜도=하이코리언 뉴스] 장마리아 기자=1만2천여 한인들이 살고 있는 올랜도(Orlando)는 플로리다주 중앙에 위치해 있으며 세계 최대 종합 리조트 관광도시로 누구나 한번쯤은 방문하고 싶은 미국내 최고의 관광도시이다.
미국내 여론조사 결과 미국인들이 가장 가고 싶어하는 인기 여행지 1위, 유럽인들에게는 신혼여행지 1위로 손꼽히고 있는 올랜도는 지난 1971년 월트디즈니월드(Disney World)가 오픈한 이래 세계 각국에서 관광객들이 대거로 몰리며 관광사업과 호텔, 쇼핑 센터등이 급성장해 각종사업이 부수적으로 발달한 관광 도시이다.
연간 7천만명의 관광객이 방문하는 올랜도는 엔터테인먼트 왕국으로 디즈니월드를 비롯해 에프캅 시티(Epcot), 엠지엠 스튜디오(MGM Studios), 유니버셜 스튜디오(Universal Sudios), 씨월드(Sea World), 애니멀 킹덤(Animal Kingdom),게이톨랜드(Gatorland),웨앤더 와일드(Wet’n Wlid),등 크고 작은 관광지가 도처에 산재해 있다.
플로리다 중앙에 위치해 있는 올랜도는 동쪽으로는 데이토나 비치(Daytona), 코코아(Cocoa) 비치, 케네디 우주 센터(Kennedy Space Center), 케이프 카니발(Cape Carnival), 세인트 어거스틴(Saint Augustin)과 서쪽으로는 탬파(Tampa)에서 유명한 부시가든(Bush Garden), 어드벤쳐 아일랜드(Adventure Island) 그리고 미국내 비치 중 가장 깨끗하기로 유명한 클리어워터(Clearwater) 비치, 세인트 피터스버그(Saint Petersburg)비치 등이 한시간 거리내에 있다.
올랜도는 테마공원 외에도 골프의 본고장으로서 미국에서도 유일의 골프채널 방송국과 LPGA 본부가 있으며, 타이거 우즈, 마크 오메라, 리쟌슨, 비제이 싱, 패인 스튜어트, 박세리, 김미현,최운영, 장정,최나연,이미나, 등 LPGA 대회에서 한국을 빛내고 있는 많은 한국 낭자들을 만날 수 있으며, 올랜도에는 반경 한시간 이내에 300여개의 골프장과 연습장이 있으며, 데이비드 레드베러, 닉팔도, 아놀드 파머등이 운영하는 유명 전문 골프 t스쿨과 골프 아카데미들이 있어 전 미국, 유럽, 일본, 한국에서 프로선수는 물론, 쥬니어 골프 꿈나무들이 방문 또는 유학을 하고 있다.또한, 샤킬 오닐, 켄 그리피 주니어 등 유명 스포츠 스타들의 홈타운이기도 하고 NBA 농구팀인 올랜도 매직의 연고지이기도 하다.
올랜도 오렌지카운티 컨벤션센터에서 해마다 PGA SHOW 세계 최대 골프산업용품박람회 열린다. 2016년 골프산업용품박람회에 74개국 3천개 이상의 업체가 참가 했고, 한국골프기업 40개 업체가 참가 했다.올랜도에는 반경 한시간 이내에 300여개의 골프장과 연습장이 있으며, 데이비드 레드베러, 닉팔도, 아놀드 파머등이 운영하는 유명 전문 골프스쿨과 골프 아카데미들이 있어 전 미국, 유럽, 일본, 한국에서 프로선수는 물론, 쥬니어 골프 꿈나무들이 방문 또는 유학을 하고 있다.
이곳 올랜도 한인들의 구심점인 중앙플로리다 한인회는 지난 1975년 5월에 창립되어 초대 박영상회장으로부터 현재 21대 서민호 회장까지 꾸준히 동포사회의 발전과 화합을 위해 봉사하면서 동포사회를 하나로 묶는 데 최선을 다 하고 있다.
30여개의 개신교회와 한인천주교회가 지역 동포들의 전도를 위해 복음을 전하고 있으며, 4개의 한국식품점과 7개의 한국식당이 있다. 한인주요 단체로는 중앙플로리다 한인회(회장 서민호), 중앙플로리다 교역자협의회, 올랜도 상록회, 노인복지센터, 시니어 골프협회, 여성골프협회 등이 지역사회 활성화를 위해 봉사하고 있다.

As the most visited American city in 2009,Orlando's famous attractions form the backbone of its tourism industry: Walt Disney World Resort, located approximately 21 miles (34 km) southwest of Downtown Orlando in Bay Lake, opened by the Walt Disney Company in 1971, the Universal Orlando Resort, opened in 1999 as a major expansion of Universal Studios Florida,SeaWorld, Gatorland,and Wet 'n Wild. With the exception of Walt Disney World, most major attractions are located along International Drive. The city is also one of the busiest American cities for conferences and conventions.
Like other major cities in the Sun Belt, Orlando grew rapidly during the 1980s and into the first decade of the 21st century. Orlando is home to the University of Central Florida, which is the second-largest university campus in the United States in terms of enrollment as of 2012. In 2010, Orlando was listed as a "Gamma−" level of world-city in the World Cities Study Group’s inventory. Orlando ranks as the fourth most popular American city based on where people want to live according to a 2009 Pew Research Center study.
